Kari Lemond

Kari was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, Tetralogy of Fallot, weeks after she was born. Less than 2 months later, she was undergoing her first surgery. The doctors placed a shunt so they could postpone her repair surgery. At 19 months old, Kari underwent open-heart surgery to repair her heart. She had 4 major things wrong with her heart, which included holes, a leaky valve, and oxygen poor blood being pumped to the rest of her body. Although surgery will be in her future, it has been 21 years since she has had surgery. Kari is currently a senior at IUPUI.
