Jagathon Committee

Meet your morale leaders for Jagathon 2015!

Team Blue

Hi! I’m Rebekah Lawson, and I am the captain of the Blue team at Jagathon this year. I am a freshman majoring in Psychology for Occupational Therapy. I dance for all of the kids who have been or are currently at Riley Hospital for Children. I specifically dance for my cousin, Carissa, who was tremendously helped by Riley for her dermatomyositis (she’ll be at Jagathon!), and for my mom who had her first open heart surgery at Riley when she was 6 years old. It’s amazing to think that Riley Hospital was helping my family before I was even born! This is my first dance marathon, and I am SO excited to share this experience with you guys! I can’t wait to meet all of you! Go Blue!

Team Red

Hi, I’m Jenna Spencer and I am the captain for the RED TEAM!  I am a junior majoring in Broadcast Journalism.  I dance to support the kids and families who are in the care of Riley Hospital for Children.  A huge reason I got involved with Dance Marathon is for my older brother.  My brother J.T. was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s non-Lymphoma.  Between Chemotherapy, Radiation, and having his spleen removed all at Riley, J.T. has now been cancer free for 16 years!  This is my first dance marathon and I hope the Red Team is ready to be loud and stand FTK all night! GO BIG RED!

Team Green

My name is Darrell Pirtle and I’ll be captain of the Green team. This will be Jagathon number two for me, and I’m hoping it’ll be every bit as exciting and inspirational as the first. I dance because I think it’s amazing what a group of motivated students can do to directly support a place as great as Riley. I can’t even begin to think of a better thing to do throughout the year and then for those 12 hours. We’re in this one together, and all the great things in life are Green! Here’s to 100K FTK,

Team Orange

Hey guys! My name is Kristina and I’m a sophomore here at IUPUI. I’m majoring in nursing and this is my second year doing Jagathon. Last year I was on the internal relation committee and I was also a Morale leader. This year I am the Miracle Maker liaison and I am a morale leader again. I dance for all the kids who are sick at Riley and may never get the chance to attend a dance marathon! I love being able to be a part of something that has such a great impact upon the kids at Riley. Go orange and  FTK!

Team Purple

HELLO EVERYONE, my name is Riley Stenger. I am the Director of morale and the captain of the Purple team for Jagathon 2015! I am a senior majoring in Psychology. I dance so that the kids do not have to go through life labeled by their illness. I want them to be able live life like any other kid- they deserve it. Most importantly, I dance for two beautiful angels, Katie Lynch and Anna Molloy, who never let their illness define who they were. These strong girls inspire me everyday to be the best I can be! Get excited PURPLE TEAM! I can’t wait to see you all there!

 Team Yellow

Hey guys! I’m Tyler and I’m the captain for the Yellow team! This is my 3rd year being involved with Jagathon, and my second year as a committee member. Last year I was the Director of Entertainment and this year I’m the Director of Greek Relations. I’m a senior studying Health Services Management and I’m also super involved with IUPUI’s Greek Life. I dance because pediatrics has always been a passion of mine especially pediatric oncology. I also dance FTK for my nephew who is a Riley kid. Because of Riley he’s his healthy and happy self! Yellow team will shine and take on Jagathon FTK! Get pumped guys, we’re going to own this and get 100k! Go Yellow!

We proudly present our 2014-2015 Jagathon Presidential Board

Nikki Blair – President

Hello! My name is Nikki Blair and I am the Chairwoman for Jagathon 2015! I am a student in the IU School of Nursing and will graduate in May 2016. In total, I have been involved with Dance Marathon for four years. My senior year of high school, a fellow Student Council member and I started Dance Marathon at our high school. It was such an incredible experience that I knew I had to get involved with Jagathon at IUPUI. I have been involved with Jagathon for three years now, and I can honestly say, it has been the most rewarding three years of my life. Most people do not realize how much planning actually takes place for Jagathon, and when I got involved, I saw this first-hand. The reason I dance is to show my unconditional support for children living with illnesses that they should not have to experience. These children face more challenges in their young lives than many of us will ever face. The strength and hope they have as a result of their battles is contagious. I cannot imagine standing 12 hours for another cause.

Fun Fact: The first time I traveled by airplane was for DMLC (Dance Marathon Leadership Conference) in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was also the first time I had been west of Chicago! This is just a glimpse at the passion I have for the children at Riley Hospital for Children!!

Shelbi Grow – Alumni Relations

Hi! I am a senior at IUPUI for the 2013-2014 academic year. I am currently serving as the Alumni Relations chair for the 2014-2015 Jagathon committee. I am a biology, pre-optometry and communication studies double major and am minoring in chemistry and dance. I will be graduating in May of 2015 with plans to attend optometry school. I have been involved with Jagathon for four years, serving as the Morale Chair for one year, Chairwoman of Jagathon for two years, and currently as the Alumni Relations Chair. This will be the first year for Jagathon to have an alumni relations component and I am excited to build this aspect for the program. I dance because I believe no child should fight alone!

Fun fact: I once chased chickens in a Dixie Stampede competition!

Kelsey Blood – VP of Finance

Hi! My name is Kelsey Blood and I am the VP of Finance this year for Jagathon! I am working toward a Bachelor of Science in Health Service Management and will be graduating in May of 2015 with plans to work in the nonprofit sector. This will be my fourth Jagathon as a part of the planning committee. I have transitioned from a general committee member, to Marketing Director, to VP of External Relations, and now VP of Finance. I first became involved with Jagathon my freshman year and completely fell in love with the cause. There is no greater feeling than seeing that final total and watching all of your goals and dreams for the event come true. I dance to change the lives of those precious Riley kids and strive to spread my passion for DM with as many people as I can through the work I do for Jagathon!

Stephanie Reichart – VP of Communications

Hello! My name is Stephanie Reichart and I am a sophomore here at IUPUI studying radiation therapy and I plan to graduate in May of 2017. I am the VP of Communications  for the upcoming 2015 Jagathon. This is a new position that was formed just this year. I’m really excited to see where I am able to take this position! This will be my second year on the committee for Jagathon. Last year I served as the Director of Volunteers without having ever attended a Dance Marathon before. I dance for the kids at Riley because I’ve personally witnessed family members of mine spend lots of time at Riley and I know the struggles the Riley families go through. I don’t think that any Riley child or family should have to go through it alone. I just want to make a difference in the lives of as many children at Riley as possible.

Fun Fact: I agreed to be Director of Volunteers before even knowing what Jagathon was and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

Alex Lumpford – VP of Internal Relations

Hi! My name is Alex Lumpford and I am a sophomore  at IUPUI. I am currently studying radiation therapy.  My freshman year of college I joined the committee as the Director of Catering, never having experienced a Dance Marathon before.  After attending my first Jagathon, I knew this was something that I wanted to continue with so that I could be a part of something bigger.  The kids make it all worthwhile, and knowing that Dance Marathon impacts the lives of so many children. This year I have taken on the role of VP of Internal Relations and I hope to continue the success of Jagathon, dancing … FTK!!

Katie Kruszynski – VP of Family Relations

My name is Katie Kruszynski and I’m majoring in exercise science, concentrating in pre-physical therapy. I’ve been involved with Jagathon since I was a freshmen at IUPUI, so this coming Dance Marathon will be my third. I have taken on the VP of Family Relations position this year and I’m so excited to connect with the Riley families to keep them informed and involved in our Dance Marathon! They are the reason we dance!
